PhD in Education experience

I started the PhD in Education program last year. The application process was straightforward, though it took about three weeks to get my acceptance letter after submitting everything. The advisors were good about answering my questions during enrollment. So far, the course material has been rigorous, but the online platform is easy to navigate. I had a small issue with accessing a textbook at the beginning of one term, but student support responded to my email within 24 hours and helped me sort it out. Delivery of the textbooks, when needed, was always on time. It's a big commitment but the support has been solid.

Another good term for my MBA

This was my third term working on the Master of Business Administration, and it went as smoothly as the first two. I really appreciate the consistency here. The course structure and expectations are always clear, which helps a lot when you're balancing work and school. I've used their transfer credit savings twice now, and it always gets applied correctly to my tuition bill without me having to chase anyone down. That's a huge relief. I keep coming back because I know what I'm getting, and it's a quality education that fits my life. No surprises, just reliable learning.

Is Walden actually respected by employers? I'm worried about the 'online school' stigma for a Master of Social Work.

R Raj Kaur 3 months ago
Honestly, for social work, the accreditation is key, and Walden is accredited. My agency hires Walden grads all the time. It's more about your skills and licensure post-degree.

I was worried about this too for my MPH. But I got a good job right after graduating, and my boss didn't even bat an eye about it being online. The reputation is pretty solid for what it is.

I heard about some kind of military discount. How do I get that applied?

N Neil 3 months ago
Yeah, they definitely have military tuition discounts. You usually just provide proof of service during the application or enrollment process.

Just talk to an enrollment advisor, they'll walk you through it. My cousin got a good chunk off for his DBA because of his service.

Are there any current discounts for new students? Like for the MBA program?

J James Bennett 2 months ago
Yeah, they usually have grants or something similar. I got a 'masters degree grant' when I started my M.S. in Psych last year, knocked a bit off.

Check their site, they often have a tuition reduction grant you can apply for during enrollment. Not like a promo code you enter, but it's there.

How long does a PhD in Education typically take? I'm working full-time and can only do part-time study.

C Cody V. 3 months ago
It's gonna vary a lot, but for a PhD doing it part-time, you're probably looking at 4-6 years realistically. My friend is in her 5th year for a Psych PhD and works too.

They have a pretty structured path, but since it's online and flexible, you can stretch it out if needed. I'd say 4 years minimum for most.

Thinking about the MSN program. How does Walden compare to, say, Capella, for nursing? Anyone have experience with both?

C Colin 2 months ago
I looked into both pretty hard for my DNP. Walden felt a bit more focused on the social change aspect, which resonated with me. Capella seemed a little more straightforward academic, but both are solid.

My friend did her BSN at Capella and then her MSN at Walden. She said Walden's online platform was easier to navigate, and she liked the support she got for her capstone project way more.
